Trapped in a Flood
I wasn’t prepared for this. We almost got stuck.
We were on my property in Arizona, when a crazy storm turned the desert into a flood zone.
I’ve never seen anything like it… especially not out there. For the most part, it’s dry. There isn’t really much water around.
Actually, there isn’t ANY water around. This property is straight up desert.
Our neighbors had warned us that they have these crazy floods sometimes, but the reality is we’re not out there full time.
I’d heard of it, but I honestly thought they were exaggerating.
And then it started raining. And then it kept raining. And then it kept raining some more.
It was starting to get a little out of hand…
So we decided to leave the property and go back to where we were staying (we’re still finishing up a residence on the property).
And that’s when we came across our first “Rain River.” I’m not sure what else to call it.
It was about 2 feet deep, and about 10 feet wide. After some debate, we took the jeep across it.
Turns out… that was the small one.
We ended up running into a “Rain River” so large, that it would have eaten the jeep. It was at least 6 feet deep and 12-15 feet across.
Basically, we were stuck.
Which is unfortunate, because I have no way of knowing how long these things were going to last.
And that’s when it hit me…
It reminded me so much of experiences I’d had with my business.
You see, when the weather is perfect – it’s really easy to get anywhere on the property. It’s primarily flat and there aren’t many obstructions.
Business can be the same way. When everything goes right, it almost feels too easy.
However, nothing perfect stays that way forever… and no business exists without facing adversity.
And sometimes, when the mud hits the fan, you’re stuck. And depending on the size of the storm, you may have no idea what to do.
Not knowing can be dangerous. It can be costly. And sometimes you’re there through not fault of your own.
Like we were.
